My Shooting Style: Simple. Shoot @ f/2.8
I've always loved shooting wide open which started way back when I was got my Nikon F4s. Soon after, my Dad was cool enough to get me Nikon's 80-200 ED f/2.8 which was an amazing lens and that's when I realized that I loved blowing out the backgrounds. It's funny because I've had my style for years and it was just something that most people disliked. To me, I just loved using a long lens and getting ANYTHING somewhat in the way (foreground) and focus on what I'm focusing on. The images below are a perfect example. At yesterday's wedding, I found myself shooting mainly with my Canon 70-200L IS f/2.8 for most of the day. It sort of gets those close up/ memorable shots that I personally love and that my couples adore. It's funny because 90% of my couples hire me because they love the way the backgrounds are out of focus. Some have some photography background and they get what I'm doing while others just think that each photo almost looks like a postcard. Not sure about the postcard thing but I guess to some degree that's what I capture. Little moments that you're going to love. Some photographers crop images but from my old school days of film, I just try to capture what I want to capture in camera. No editing later because I don't really care much for spending time on an image and "making" it look the way I want it too. I'll just take it the way I think it should be. Not only that but I shoot weddings with a happy trigger finger. Yesterday's wedding produced 4,000 images, so if you're taking less than that at ANY wedding then I think you may want to consider shooting a little more. Don't fight it, just try it and in the end, TRUST ME, you'll have so many more photos that you'll love than ever before. Hope this helps and email me if you have any questions.
